The First Ball

Published by follecajun79 at 6:54 am under Mardi Gras Season Edit This

Tuesday, January 6 will be the first Mardi Gras ball of the season where I live.  Revelers will come from near and far to go to the local auditorium.  The parade floats will march around the inside of the auditorium while citizens line the bleachers and the floors with their costumes.  The people will shout “Throw Me Something Mister!” They will shout “Eh Mardi Gras!”  The people on the floats will throw beads, cups and candy at the revelers.  In other parts of the state, they have Mardi Gras balls that are somewhat different.  These balls are more of a formal party to show off the elaborate costumes that weigh over a hundred pounds each.  But in my area, the costumes are more simple.  The Mardi Gras queens dress in formal dresses and the kings in tuxedos.  This area of the state hosts more of a regular party instead of a formal “Mardi Gras Ball”.  But no matter where you go in the state, you must be invited to take part in the ball or in the parade itself.  You must buy a ticket to go to the fancy party that is thrown for those that will be riding the floats.  Whatever the case, I can’t wait for Mardi Gras day, when the floats pass down the streets of Lafayette for all people, adults and children alike, to enjoy.
