Who’s Dreaming of a White Christmas?
I’m not dreaming of a white Christmas. I’m just dreaming of a day where I don’t have to use the air conditioning. It’s tradition here in South Louisiana. Christmas is usually about 80 degrees here. It’s perfect shorts weather. Today was warm and muggy all day long. It doesn’t feel like winter or even fall. The weather here is just warm and wet. As a child, when Papa Noel would bring me a bicycle, I didn’t think twice about going outside to ride it. I didn’t have to worry about putting on a jacket or gloves or a scarf. In fact, I didn’t even own a scarf until I was an adult. Maybe that’s a good thing. My children will probably never have to worry about waiting to go outside until it warms up some so they can play with the outside toys Papa Noel brought. And even though it is usually very warm and yucky outside, we still eat the traditional Christmas Gumbo. We just turn down the air conditioning so we can enjoy our warm bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo with potato salad. Maybe we will get a blast or two of cold air by Mardi Gras.
